What I Tell Customers About the 2024 Ford Mustang Brake Pedal Recall ## Understanding the 2024 Ford Mustang Brake Pedal Recall When a safety recall is issued, especially one involving a core control like your brakes, it naturally raises questions for drivers who rely on their vehicles every day. I want to make sure you have the exact facts about what is going on. Ford has issued recall campaign 23S61 (also tracked under NHTSA campaign number 24S38) because the brake pedal assembly on certain 2024 Ford Mustang models may have been manufactured incorrectly. Specifically, this issue affects certain models equipped with manual transmissions where the clutch and brake pedal linkages are positioned closely together. In these affected sports cars, the structural integrity of the brake pedal bracket might be compromised due to a supplier manufacturing deviation. If you are driving your vehicle and need to stop suddenly, a compromised bracket could bend or break under heavy pressure. Because of this immediate risk, Ford has issued an official "do not drive" advisory for vehicles confirmed to have this defect until the proper repair is completed. If you own one of these fastbacks and want to verify if your vehicle is affected, you do not have to figure it out alone. You can search for open recalls using your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), which is easily found on the driver’s side doorframe or the lower driver’s side corner of the windshield. As your trusted local Ford Dealership Near Me, our service team is fully equipped to look up your VIN and verify your vehicle's status instantly. Under normal driving conditions, you might not notice any play or softness in the pedal. However, during a sudden stop or emergency maneuver, the driver applies significantly more force to the pedal. If the pedal bracket assembly suffers from the manufacturing defect, that sudden load can cause the bracket to bend or snap entirely. This structural failure leads to a loose brake pedal and a sudden, severe loss of braking function. If the pedal cannot transfer your physical foot pressure to the hydraulic master cylinder, you lose the ability to actuate the service brakes. This scenario drastically increases the risk of a crash, which is why the manufacturer advises against driving the vehicle until the assembly is replaced. This risk is particularly critical when navigating the steep riverfront bluffs and rolling hills of the Appalachian Plateau region around East Liverpool, where reliable braking performance is non-negotiable. While we are discussing safety and preventative maintenance, it is always a good idea to keep your entire household fleet in top shape. How Our Certified Technicians Complete the Hydraulic Pedal Repair Let me explain how our team resolves this issue in our shop. The repair is not a temporary patch or a simple adjustment; it requires a complete replacement of the compromised hardware. Our factory-certified technicians will completely remove the original brake pedal and bracket assembly and install a brand-new, correctly manufactured OEM replacement. This new assembly features reinforced structural points designed to withstand maximum emergency braking forces without flexing or failing. Because this is an official safety recall, the entire repair—including all required parts and professional labor—is provided completely free of charge. We use only genuine Ford components to ensure your vehicle meets original factory safety standards. Our technicians also inspect the surrounding hydraulic linkages and the clutch pedal pivot points on manual models to ensure perfect alignment and smooth operation before signing off on the job. If you like to handle your own basic garage maintenance or need accessories for your vehicle, you can easily Order Parts directly through our website. For those who want to build a vehicle to their exact specifications from the ground up, we can also assist with a New Vehicle Custom Order. Once your vehicle is configured, our Finance Department is here to help you navigate the process smoothly when it comes time to finalize your paperwork. Handling Your Appointment Logistics and Loaner Options A common question I hear from our customers is whether they can get a loaner vehicle while their sports car is in the shop. Because Ford has issued a "do not drive" recommendation for this specific recall, we want to help you avoid driving on public roads if your VIN is flagged as active. When you schedule your recall service, our service advisors will coordinate the logistics of your appointment, including discussing temporary transportation options or loaner vehicle availability based on our current fleet. Our goal is to make this process as seamless as possible for our local drivers. Since this is a critical safety issue, our service team prioritizes these recall repairs to get your vehicle back on the road quickly. While your car is on our lift, our team can also perform a multi-point inspection to ensure your vehicle is ready for the changing seasons. For instance, our heavy local winter road-salt usage makes routine undercarriage inspections and Battery Service highly recommended to prevent corrosion and starting issues during sub-freezing temperatures. Managing Misplaced Notifications and Late Responses Hassle-Free I often talk to folks who are worried because they misplaced their original recall letter, which was mailed out to owners on December 21, 2023. If you lost your letter or bought your vehicle used and never received one, there is no need to worry. Our service department has direct access to Ford’s database. We can look up your vehicle’s history using your VIN to see if the recall has already been completed or if it is still showing as open. Another point of confusion is whether there is a deadline for getting this fixed. Safety recalls do not expire, and you will never be charged a fee or penalized for responding late. However, because this defect directly impacts your ability to stop the vehicle, we strongly urge you not to delay. This is especially true for commuters driving the gently rolling hills of Calcutta, where sudden stops on rural two-lane roads require immediate, reliable pedal response. If you use your vehicles for commercial purposes or heavy hauling, keeping your fleet compliant and safe is critical for your business. We invite you to explore our Used Work Truck Inventory or check out the heavy-duty capabilities in our F-Series Work Inventory. For those needing a versatile setup, we also maintain a dedicated Truck Inventory to help you find the right tool for the job. Long-Term Performance and Routine Hydraulic System Care Maintaining your vehicle's braking system goes far beyond addressing factory recalls. The hydraulic system relies on clean, moisture-free fluid to transfer pressure from your foot to the brake calipers. Over time, brake fluid naturally absorbs moisture from the air, which can lower its boiling point and cause a spongy pedal feel under heavy use. This is why routine fluid flushes are an essential part of long-term sports car maintenance. Our factory-trained technicians recommend inspecting your brake pads, rotors, and fluid levels during every routine oil change. Regular inspections help us spot uneven pad wear or minor hydraulic weeping before they turn into expensive repairs or safety hazards. Keeping these components in perfect working order ensures your vehicle handles exactly the way the engineers intended, whether you are taking a spirited weekend drive or handling your daily commute. If you want to ensure your vehicle is operating at its peak performance, our team is here to help.
